Ingredients
- 1/2 cup onions, finely chopped
- 1 clove garlic
- 1/4 cup oil - divided
- 3 pounds ground beef or ground turkey is fine, too
- 1 1 lb. 12 ounce can canned tomatoes
- 2 medium dried apples, cut in small pieces
- 1/2 cup raisins or currants work, too
- 1 tablespoon chili powder
- 1/2 cup sliced stuffed olives
- 2 teaspoon salt
- 4 ounces almonds, slivered
- taco shells
Directions
Cook onions and garlic in 3 tablespoons hot oil. Add beef, half at a time and saute until browned. Add tomatoes, apples, raisins, olives, chili powder and salt. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer uncovered for 20 minutes, stirring ocassionally. Heat remaining tablespoon oil in small skillet. Add almonds. When lightly browned, add everything else. Serve in taco shells.
I made half a recipe and found that it needed some spicing up so I added almost a tablespoon of Joe's Hot Stuff Seasoning. It made it absolutely wonderful and we had it over spaghetti because we didn't have any taco shells. I used currants instead of raisins.
